Qi Therapy
How long does it take?
Treatment sessions usually last between 40 - 50 minutes, however, for your first visit it will take about 1½ hours, as a full medical history and in depth consultation needs to be undertaken, as well as your receiving a treatment.
Does it hurt?
Acupuncture needles are very fine unlike those used for injections. Most people do not experience any sensation when the needle is first inserted. After this the practitioner will locate & manipulate the Qi, during this process a ‘dull ache’, ‘sense of heaviness’ or ‘tingling’ sensation may be temporarily felt at the site of the needle. Most patients find acupuncture deeply relaxing.
How many treatments will I need ?
Initial treatments are usually given once a week. Some change may be noticed after about five or six treatments. However, everyone responds differently and you may notice the benefit after just one or two treatments. Some patients may require long term treatment. You will be advised at your first consultation how many treatments you may need.
What happens in a treatment session?
You will be asked a variety of questions concerning your general health, lifestyle and diet, as well as details about the symptoms for which you have come for treatment. A physical examination may be given if appropriate. Your pulse will be taken and your tongue observed. From this information the practitioner is able to make your individualised TCM diagnosis. From your TCM diagnosis your treatment plan is drawn up. This will outline acupoints and areas of the body to be stimulated, this may be through Acupuncture, but may also include Cupping, Moxibustion and Acupressure Massage. If massage is incorporated into a treatment massage of a specific area may last around 5 minutes.
Massage may promote stress release & relaxation. Additionally, stimulation of the flow of Qi through the body with acupressure massage can help the body’s natural healing processes. You may also be interested in a standalone massage treatment which focuses on the back, neck and shoulders. This treatment lasts 30 minutes. Chinese massage techniques are used to stimulate the flow of Qi in the energy channels which run in this area, this includes many key acupoints which are used to treat a wide variety of health disorders.
