About Acupuncture
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), our bodies are manifestations of energy known as Qi. In health the different aspects of this energy, known as Yin and Yang, flow in harmony. If the flow of Qi becomes disrupted there is disharmony which can manifest in various health disorders. The flow of Qi may be disrupted through such things as overwhelming emotions, poor diet, infections, environmental factors and physical trauma.
Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to help the body restore its harmonious flow of energy. Fine needles are inserted into the body at specific sites known as acupoints. The needles are manipulated to cause a change in the flow of Qi and therefore help the body to return to a more harmonious state. As well as needles, other TCM therapies may be added to the treatment, these also stimulate the flow of Qi.
They may include:
Cupping — the placing of vacuum glass cups on parts of the body
Moxibustion — warming treatment through the burning of herbs
Acupressure Massage — body massage using traditional Chinese massage techniques
Massage may promote stress release & relaxation. Additionally, stimulation of the flow of Qi through the body with acupressure massage can help the body’s natural healing processes. You may also be interested in a standalone massage treatment which focuses on the back, neck and shoulders. This treatment lasts 30 minutes. Chinese massage techniques are used to stimulate the flow of Qi in the energy channels which run in this area, this includes many key acupoints which are used to treat a wide variety of health disorders.
